The shop windows in the Gothic Quarter are filled with art

The Art Windows project is an initiative of Barna Centre, the Shopkeepers’ Association of the Gothic Quarter, a retail network of some 1,000 shops in Barcelona’s old town.

The windows of these unique shops will be showcasing works by world-renowned artists from the fields of the visual and performing arts, film and literature. One of the twenty participating shops is the Espai Quera, which, for four generations, has been involved in publishing and selling books.

In 2019, the Espai Quera reinvented itself and entered a new phase, opening a restaurant in the backroom, which, curiously enough, is the place where the old family dining room and kitchen were located. It has also added a new category to its range of books: travel writing. At the new Espai Quera, visitors will find dishes made with quality local produce and an extensive cellar designed with the most discerning palates in mind, as well as a varied calendar of activities, including tastings, food and wine pairings and talks, book presentations and new releases.
