Panellets, the traditional sweet treat

Panellets are one of the most eagerly awaited Catalan sweet treats. They are eaten on 31st October and 1st November, All Saints’ Day, accompanied by roasted chestnuts, sweet potatoes and other sweet delicacies.

The recipe for panellets is simple and consists of a paste made from sugar, egg yolk and ground almonds. Nowadays, cake shops sell a wide variety of flavours to suit all tastes. Coconut and coffee, chocolate, lemon and even chestnut. The most traditional panellets are coated in pine nuts or chopped almonds. At Barcelona Shopping City we recommend some of the finest cake shops in Barcelona where you’ll find the traditional sweet treat:

Founded more than 30 years ago, Chocofiro makes its chocolates and cakes using time-honoured methods. A wide variety of sweet treats and decorations to celebrate this time of year.

Since 1886, the Pastisseria Foix de Sarrià has been selling traditional sweet treats and cakes in the uptown district of Barcelona. More than 30 varieties of panellets.

Located in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, La Colmena is one of Barcelona’s oldest cake shops. Famed for its home-made sweets, during the All Saints’ celebrations its windows are filled with a wide variety of panellets.

Pastisseries Mauri, iconic cake and sweet makers in the heart of the city.
