Panellets, the traditional sweet treat

Panellets are one of the most eagerly awaited Catalan sweet treats. They are eaten on 31st October and 1st November, All Saints’ Day, accompanied by roasted chestnuts, sweet potatoes and other sweet delicacies.

The recipe for panellets is simple and consists of a paste made from sugar, egg yolk and ground almonds. Nowadays, cake shops sell a wide variety of flavours to suit all tastes. Coconut and coffee, chocolate, lemon and even chestnut. The most traditional panellets are coated in pine nuts or chopped almonds.
